Happy Reformation Day

So these sections are out of order but they all "fall" under the same theme so we are rolling with it.

Martin Luther’s nailing of his ninety-five theses to the church door on October 31, 1517, provoked a debate that culminated finally in what we now call the Protestant Reformation."

Before we headed out the door to go trick-or-treating at the Court House, Andy printed off some "theses" for the girls...

 Uncle Ben sent us these costumes all the way from Hawaii (when he was there).  Cutest hula girls out there, turtlenecks and jeans and all!

 We killed two birds with one stone and while I voted, the girls loaded up on the candy :)

 Believe it or not, Hadley was worn out only a little bit after we started.  Nothing a few bite-sized Milky Ways couldn't fix.

  Every Wednesday we go to story-time at the library.  This week though, instead of story-time, the library lady met us at the Court House and took us around to all the offices where we were met with buckets full of goodies.  Hula girls and superheros :)  

 Our sister church had a Fall Festival that we helped out with.  By "helped" I mean, I sat at my Duck Pond booth and the girls ran around (with Andy) and played all the games and ate all the candy and did all the crafts and rode all the horses and had the time of their lives :)

 Some of our youth girls ran the hair-spray booth.  Let's just say they enjoyed themselves.

 They had a little devotional time too.

 A few weeks back we carved some pumpkins.  Every year the girls get a little better about the fact that carving pumpkins is messy business.  They get more and more willing to do the dirty work.  In fact, Hadley was convinced she could do the whole thing herself, cutting and all.  We still helped :)    

 My mom and Andy have a little competition going to make Hadley's favorite animal a cat (my mom) or a dog (Andy).  We realize those are not the only choices but Hadley does go back and forth between the two.  So when we asked what she wanted on her pumpkin, she said a kitty.  KITTY-1 PUPPY-0  Joni is still in the "I-could-care-less-just-put-the-fire-in-it" stage and so we made her some fish.  

 And for the first time in 7 years, we have a front porch to put our pumpkins on.  And so...we did :)

Huber Family Fun

Where do I begin?  These first few pictures are some leftover when we visited Louisville.  Funny that we are headed back there tomorrow for Ms. Ruth's wedding (Hadley's special teacher and dear Louisville friend of ours).  Figured I better get these up of the first trip so we can be caught up.  We stayed with Tommy and Kelly (and Nate and Caleb who Hadley still calls her best friends).  The kids had so much fun together....as did the adults.  Brushing their teeth....

and of course, I know you all have been missing these zoo pictures.  The zoo was the one thing I really wanted to do while there but the forecast said rain and more rain.  Kelly is awesome though and suggested we just try it and I jumped all over that and we went and it was great....and no rain :)

We are staying there again and Hadley is having a hard time holding back her excitement.  

So as far as Leavenworth is concerned, WE LOVE IT!  Our church family, our house, the area, the things to do and see, we are so blessed and thankful to God for bringing us here.  Andy has really been focusing on the youth part of his job (actually just started music full force this month too).  One of our seniors is the quarterback at the high school and so we went to one of his games....by far the BEST (as in my nerves and my voice we both totally shot) football game I have ever been to.  The girls had fun as well.  Hadley can yell and scream and hoot and holler like the rest of them but we already knew that :)

                            

                            

                            

                           

Then one of the college girls had the youth group girls over for afternoon tea.  My girls thought it was awesome and I had them bring their little tea sets.  They were so darn cute and I decided we needed to have our own little "real" tea parties more often.

The girls learned how to sit like ladies and practiced balancing books on their heads while sitting down and going up and down stairs.

We had a little devotional, sampled some different kinds of tea, ate wonderful little treats like scones and cucumber sandwiches and ended the afternoon with a game of Apples to Apples.  Jolly good time!  :)  

We try to have family fun nights and since we all enjoy watching movies so much, it usually turns into family movie night.  However, one night I decided we should do something different and came up with family science night.  It was a hit.  1st stop:  color wheel.  We learned which colors make other colors.

Next stop: what happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar?  An explosion...kind of :)  If you are super observant and noticed Andy's attempted beard, let me explain.  No, I have not had a sudden change of heart about facial hair on my husband, nor have I agreed to just on a whim, let him grow it :)  Our church does a thing at Christmas time called Walk Through Bethlehem (WTB).  The church is transformed into Bethlehem and everyone is involved in some way or another.  All the guys think that it makes everything more authentic.... if you grow it, they will come.  So after Andy asked nicely (many many times) and gave me a back massage, I agreed....but the evening that WTB is done...lets just say I'm looking forward to it :)

Then we mixed oil and blue water together and watched them separate.  

And finally ended with playing with cornstarch and water (which makes a cool liquidy-solid goop for those of you who have never tried it).  I'm not entirely sure the girls learned a whole lot but they got to get their hands messy and we had fun.

And one more of Jo at the park.  The wind wasn't blowing...that is static from the slide.  Sweet girl!  Getting so big.  :(
