Hippos, Costumes, and San Antonio

Jumping right in.....our dear friends were in great need (due to some surgeries and other things) of a night to themselves and Andy and I took 2 of their 3 boys for the night.  We started off the "slumber party" at the zoo (I did 4 kids by myself and rocked it---Raise the Praise!) and then we went home and had a movie night.  They were wonderful and Andy and I enjoyed having a family of 6 for an evening!  Our desire for a large family wasn't diminished a bit :)
Here they are.....Caleb (drinking from Hadley's pink water bottle), Hadley and Nate, and Joni leading the way.
Andy's parents, Janet and Kemper, were so awesome and invited the girls and I down for a Women of Faith Conference in San Antonio last weekend.  We had such a great time and Hadley was beside herself with excitement about getting to ride on FOUR airplanes!!!  Joni was old enough too to look out the window and know that this wasn't something she got to do everyday.
It was in the 80s and 90s while we were there and since Nana and Papa have a nice backyard now, we sent them out with some water to play in.....
which quickly became water to swim in.
While Janet and I went to the conference, Papa and the girls (I know, he took them on for 2 whole days and did awesome!) kept themselves busy.  One of the outings was a Fall Festival at their church and so we made some cupcakes for the event.  The girls were pumped to "help."
Joni is just like her mom and her sister and LOVES her sweets....yes, that is frosting on her eyelash.
The finished cupcakes which we were told were the "prettiest" ones there.
Nana was so proud of herself and her "Barb-garage-sale-skills" when she found this sweet setup one day driving home from work.  The girls played and played in it!  Huge hit!  Joni is playing peek-a-boo with me in the middle.
The Women of Faith conference was a wonderful time of WORSHIP........
 and LAUGHING.....
and being able to see a little bit of San Antonio.....Janet and I took a riverboat tour during one lunch break and it was beautiful!
If you live in TX and haven't been to a Rudy's yet.....GO!  Their sign says the WORST BBQ IN TEXAS but I guarantee you it is the exact opposite.  As much as we hate having Janet and Kemper so far away, there is some comfort in knowing we'll get to have Rudy's whenever we visit!  :)
This is the church cat.  I think it just showed up one day and they started feeding it, so it never left.
Playing with a water feature at an outdoor mall we visited.
And if they have a zoo, we will come.  The San Antonio zoo was very nice but again, very hot.
 Looking at the fish....
 and the snakes.....
 an elephant taking a bath.....
and an eagle up close and personal....
We saw these pipe-cleaner spiders at the zoo and Janet wanted to make some.  They turned out so great and we built a web and hung them up.
Playing on the escalator at the airport trying to kill some time.  Some of you might think I was crazy to take 2 little girls by myself on an airplane (I did too).  But God is sovereign and good and because I had a whole troop of people praying for me....IT WAS AWESOME!   Really, they were so good (slept 2 of the 4 flights) and were wonderful!  It can be done people......but only with the help of the Lord!
And lastly, another fun fall morning where the girls got to wear their costumes and get some more candy.......
 and jump on bouncy-houses.....
and sit in firetrucks (Hadley loved this)....
and pet pigs!  They had a petting zoo with chickens you can hold, a bunny, a donkey, a llama, this pig, and a miniature pony.
Joni is trying to pet the bunny.
Only one more post to come with costumes and fall fun then onto Thanksgiving and CHRISTMAS!!!!  Tomorrow night we are getting together with a bunch of people from church and teaching our kids how important it is to be a Light in this world, especially during Halloween, which can bring out scary dark creepy bloody icky things.  Love to you all!

Halloween things Part 1

Zoo again, zoo again, jiggity-jig.  We love it there so no complaints here (outdoors, exercise, and entertainment....what more could you ask for)?  We went while Nana and Papa were here for Hadley's birthday, then the day after they left we went back for the "World's Biggest Halloween Party" so the girls could rock their new awesome costumes courtesy of Nana!

I love this picture.....Nana and Papa with their sweet girls going to look at the tiger who you can see through the great.
The baby polar bear (1 of 2 now).....I get really excited to see him but the girls really could care less....they like the fish and the bats (I know, don't ask me) and the monkeys.
So I'm not sure if I updated everyone on my new hobby via blog but I have been "dieting" for awhile and there have been 2 opportunities to walk/run in some 5Ks around town.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not hard core (stretching or running a practice lap before the race even starts) but it is fun and really good exercise. I push the girls in the stroller with all our stuff and we have fun.  The first one I did alone and the second one my AWESOME friend Paige went with me and brought her adorable son Owen and I had a blast!  Much much more fun when you can fellowship....3.1 miles seems much shorter.
Hadley at the finish line.  I came in at 51 minutes for the 1st race and was TOTALLY PUMPED with this time (44 minuets).  However, I found a friend later that informed me that it wasn't quite a 5K and so everyone had a really good time....oh well....still fun!
After the race they had a mini carnival for the kids.  Joni has dots, Hadley is a butterfly, and Owen is a puppy.
The Halloween party at the zoo is only on the weekends but all the decorations were out when we went with Nana and Papa so we took a couple shots without the costume.

And here they are......the cutest Rapunzel and Pascal you have ever seen!
You don't go to the zoo Halloween party to see the animals (you see none).....the main point is to get candy (safely) and to wait in really long lines to take pictures with people dressed as characters you love.  We heard "Oh!  Look at that pretty Rapunzel and her long hair and her dragon/lizard," a lot.  He (Pascal) is a chameleon but it is an easy mistake to make :)
We have had a couple of really nice days and have had lots of time to play outside.  We are excited for the holidays and fall and winter too, but it has been nice to get out and about.
The girls and I are flying (just the 3 of us) to TX on Thursday so start praying now if you don't mind for wonderfully behaved girls, a calm mommy, quick smooth flights, easily found connecting gates, and understanding co-passengers.  We are excited so see Nana and Papa again and will have more pictures of our adventures soon!  Love to you all!
